And what I do
Hello, welcome to my corner of the universe! I'm a full time artist in Victoria, BC. I'm formally educated by the Alberta University of the Arts where I completed my Bachelor's of Fine Arts Degree.
I work in wearable, digital, and traditional mediums for my personal creations as well as for clients in Canada and abroad. I do portrait commissions, custom painted jackets and sneakers, indoor murals, digital designs, and many other artistic shenanigans.
Some of my most exciting projects involved making work for the families of NHL and NFL players, fashion models, collaborating with photographer Chris Fulcher from LA, and working for RIFF (a Canadian cannabis brand).
If you'd like to collaborate or commission work from me, don't hesitate to send me an email - I'd love to connect with you!
These are all examples of previous commissions. All custom painted sneakers and jackets are wearable and washable. I use high quality material-specific paints and use trusted and tested techniques. All traditional portraits are archival quality and coated with a UV protective spray. Prices shown are in Canadian dollars and are current as of 2021. These prices EXCLUDE the cost of the garment (ie new shoes or jacket) and the cost of shipping. These prices INCLUDE a unique custom design and a similar amount of detailed artwork. All commissions can be domestically or internationally shipped, or picked up at no cost from my home studio in Calgary.
INQUIRE ABOUT A COMMISSION
You can never have too much art. If you have an idea for the next iconic look for your wall or wardrobe, send me a message!
HOW IT WORKS:
I require a minimum deposit of 50% before starting any work
I can create a custom design based on your desired theme, idea, or reference photo
To give you complete quote, I'll need to know if I'm purchasing any garments on your behalf, or if you'll provide them for me, and where I'll be shipping the finished artwork (if outside Victoria)
Projects usually take 2-3 days to design, and 1-2 weeks to complete
If your project has a deadline, you should book me at least 4 weeks in advance
For Christmas commissions, contact me in September to guarantee a spot
My most exciting work is always the result of a collaboration. I have worked with photographers, models, influencers, and Canadian brands.
If you're a creative or influencer, hit me up!
Don't hesitate to reach out to me regarding commissions, collaborations, and art lessons. I'm always happy to answer questions and connect.

Q: CAN PAINTED CLOTHING BE WORN AND WASHED?
A: Yes, painted clothing is meant to be worn and washed. The paints I use are permanent and material-specific. On cotton, I use high quality fabric paint, and heat-set the article. On leather, I use leather paints and seal them with a clear sealer with a matte or gloss sheen. Shoes can be washed gently with warm water and a soapy sponge. Painted clothing like jackets can be gently machine washed on cold and hung to dry.
Q: HOW DO PAINTED SHOES WEAR OVER TIME?
A: Painted shoes will crease around the toes where the shoes bend as one walks like all other shoes do after several wears. These creases tend to crack the leather or fabric and will eventually collect dirt. It is up to the owner to decide whether they want to wear their painted shoes often and allow the shoes to have a normal lifespan, if they want to keep them for display only as a collectors item, or if they want to take a half measure in which the shoes are worn on special occasions.
Q: HOW DO PAINTED JACKETS, SWEATERS, AND JEANS WEAR OVER TIME?
A: Painted clothing will last a very long time without visible wear. The only concern when there are thick layers of paint on the fabric. These thick layers can crack when the fabric is bent or folded, even though the fabric paint is very flexible. I try to use thin layers of paint that soak into the fabric as much a possible, but sometimes the design calls for thick layers and this can't be avoided (ex. painting a portrait on black fabric). As long as the garment is hung in a closet when stored and not folded, you won't have to worry.
Q: ARE PAINTED SHOES WATER PROOF?
A: No, painted shoes are not water proof as a result of being painted and sealed. Water and mud can still soak into the seams of leather shoes, and cotton/canvas shoes such as Vans can still have mud and dirty water soak right into the painted fabric, so try to prevent stains.
Q: HOW DO I CALCULATE MY PRICES?
A: Hours worked and materials are factored into my prices. Most projects take me 1 - 2 weeks to complete. Sometimes smaller scale projects will take longer than larger ones because of the amount of detail involved. For example, a small portrait with five people cropped at the waist with a hockey stadium in the background would cost more than a larger portrait with only two people cropped at the bust with a wall in the background. Everyone receives the same prices, and they are non-negotiable.
Q: WHAT IF I WANT TO SEE A DESIGN FOR MY PROJECT BEFORE FULLY COMMITING AND PAYING A DEPOSIT?
A: That's totally fine. Instead of asking for a deposit, I can charge you a $50 design fee which can be applied to the total cost of the project if you decide to go ahead with it. For example, you say "Ainsley, I'd like you to paint a portrait of Kobe Bryant on my new Air Force 1's, and I don't require any shipping." The total for that project would be $400. I can charge you $50 to make a design. If you like the design, I'll only charge you $350 for the rest of the project.
